I am writing to express serious concern regarding the increasing pollution within the Dikkale Forest Reserve, primarily caused by irresponsible behavior of visitors. This issue poses a severe threat to the ecological balance, wildlife, and overall biodiversity of this precious natural habitat.
During recent visits and observations, it has become alarmingly evident that a significant number of visitors are leaving behind plastic bottles, food wrappers, polythene bags, and other non-biodegradable waste. These pollutants not only degrade the scenic beauty of the reserve but also create a harmful environment for the flora and fauna.

The Zero Plastic Movement team from Wayamba University of Sri Lanka took proactive steps to address this issue by organizing a cleanup drive within the Dikkale Forest Reserve. The team, consisting of passionate student volunteers, collected and removed a significant volume of plastic waste, food wrappers, and other pollutants left behind by visitors. Their effort aimed not only to restore the natural beauty of the reserve but also to raise awareness about environmental responsibility among the public.
