Nilwella waste collection Problem

We are writing on behalf of the Zero Plastic Movement to express our deep concern regarding the serious waste mismanagement issues affecting Nilwella, commonly known as Blue Beach.
This beach, with its stunning blue waters and picturesque small island, is one of the most beautiful and unique coastal areas in the Southern Province. However, its natural beauty is now under threat due to the continued negligence in waste collection and disposal by the municipal authorities, as well as irresponsible practices by some members of the surrounding communities.
Despite Nilwella being a popular and rapidly growing tourist destination, there appears to be no proper waste collection system in place. As a result, garbage is often burned, buried, or discarded along the beach, causing severe environmental damage and undermining the tourism potential of the area.
This issue has not gone unnoticed. Influential foreigners residing in the area, supported by the Zero Plastic Movement, have raised concerns and are actively calling for immediate and sustainable waste management solutions. We believe that without urgent intervention, this destination’s environmental and economic value will be severely compromised.
We strongly urge the Dikwella Pradeshiya Sabha to:
Implement a proper and regular waste collection system in the Nilwella beach area.
Conduct routine monitoring visits to ensure accountability and cleanliness.
Engage with the local community to raise awareness and promote responsible waste disposal.
Collaborate with environmental groups such as ours to develop long-term solutions.
Nilwella has the potential to become a top tourist attraction in Sri Lanka, but that future depends on your immediate action. We, at Zero Plastic Movement, are ready to support and work with you in addressing this urgent issue.

මම/අප සිරෝ ප්ලාස්ටික් චලනය නියෝජනය කරමින්, නිල්වැල්ල වෙරළ ප්‍රදේශයේ පවතින අපද්‍රව්‍ය කළමනාකරණ අකමැත්ත පිළිබඳ දැඩි අපසන්තුෂ්ටිය ප්‍රකාශ කරමු.
මෙම වෙරළ, ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ විශිෂ්ට සංචාරක ආකර්ෂණයකි. එහෙත් ප්‍රාදේශීය සභාවේ අපද්‍රව්‍ය සංග්‍රහණ සේවාවක් නොමැතිවීම හේතුවෙන්, අපද්‍රව්‍ය දැමීම, පිළිස්සීම සහ ගිලවීම වැනි ආකාරයෙන් පරිසරය හා සංචාරක භාවිතය බිඳවැටේ.
විදේශික පදිංචිකරුවන්ගේ සහායද සහිතව, අපි සභාවෙන් ඉල්ලා සිටින්නේ:
නිතිපතා අපද්‍රව්‍ය සංග්‍රහණ සේවාවක් ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීම,
නිරීක්ෂණ සහ පරිසර පිරිසිදුතාව පවත්වා ගැනීම,
ප්‍රජාවට අවබෝධතා වැඩසටහන් ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීම.
මෙම ගැටළුවට වහා විසඳුමක් ලබා දෙන ලෙස අපි ඉල්ලමු. අපගේ සංවිධානය සහය ලබා දීමට සූදානම් වේ.

පසුගිය සෙනසුරාදා (3 වන දින) අපගේ පිරිසිදු කිරීමෙන් පසු බ්ලූ බීච් හි අපද්‍රව්‍ය එකතු කිරීම සඳහා ඉල්ලා ලිපියක් අපි ඉදිරිපත් කළෙමු. මුලදී, ඔවුන් එය එකතු කිරීමට එකඟ වූ නමුත් උත්සවය පැවති දිනයේදී ඔවුන් පැමිණියේ නැත. අපි ඉරිදා නැවත ඔවුන් බැලීමට ගිය නමුත් පිරිසිදු කිරීමෙන් පසු තවමත් අපද්‍රව්‍ය එකතු කර නොතිබුණි.
අපි සඳුදා (රජයේ වැඩ කරන දිනයක්) නැවත වරක් පසු විපරම් කළ නමුත්, පසුව පවා අපද්‍රව්‍ය ඉවත් කර නොමැත. දැන් දින තුනකට ආසන්න කාලයක් ගත වී ඇති අතර, අපද්‍රව්‍ය එකතු කර නොමැත. අපි දික්වැල්ල ප්‍රාදේශීය සභාවේ ලේකම් චාන්දනී වේරගොඩ මහත්මිය සමඟ කතා කළ අතර, මැතිවරණයෙන් පසු පිරිසිදු කිරීම සංවිධානය කිරීමට ඇය එකඟ විය, එනම් හෙට (බදාදා).
We submitted a letter requesting the collection of waste from Blue Beach following our cleanup last Saturday (the 3rd). Initially, they agreed to collect it, but on the day of the event, they did not show up. We visited them again on Sunday, but the waste still had not been collected after the cleanup.
We followed up once more on Monday (a government working day), but even then, the waste was not removed. It has now been almost three days, and the waste remains uncollected. We spoke with Ms. Chandani Weragoda, the Secretary of the Dikwella Pradeshiya Sabha, and she agreed to arrange the cleanup after the election, which is tomorrow (Wednesday).
